Slippery Elm has a similar taste as oatmeal.  My favorite way to consume it is to mix it with my steel cut oats.  You may also add it to warm warm water and drink as a tea.  It comes in capsules or lozenges.

Steel Cut Oats with Slipper Elm

I like to prepare my oats the night before.  You may also make several servings and refrigerate for several days.

Single serving:  1-1/3 cup water, 1/3 cup steel cut oats.  Mix together in a saucepan with lid.  Bring to a low boil and allow to simmer about 3 minutes.  Turn heat off and allow to sit overnight.

In the morning add stevia to sweeten, 1/4 tsp ginger powder, 1/4 tsp cinnamon and 1 tsp slippery elm.  You may add a variety of fruits such as peaches, apples, cranberries, etc.  It’s great with walnuts.  Pure maple syrup is another wonderful way to sweeten.  Heat on low till your fruit is ready.  Your oats only need to heat up and it’s ready to eat.
