Tea for 2 or Just You

Just found some of my favorite teas on sale. Fennel tea is wonderful for the digestion. It has a pleasant, mild flavor that is a bit like licorice. If you’ve never tried it now’s the time. Fennel is on sale for $1.80, regular price $6.64. Oh yea. Love those sales.

Also check out Yerba Mate. This has a great energy boost with vitamins/minerals, oh and it taste’s great.

Another great digestion and a good candida cleanser is Pau Darco. Again it has a nice mild flavor.

Brew them by the pitcher, cool and enjoy all day. Hydrate and do your body good. There are many more teas on sale. Find them under the “Grocery” section from the link below.

Holy Basil or Tulsi

Holy Basil is native to India. It is known by either Holy Basil or Tulsi. The benefits of this herb make the name Holy Basil quite appropriate.

Benefits include:
*Stress reduction
*Assisting the body in resisting bacterial and viral infection
*Promotes respiratory health
*Promotes digestive health
*Good for the eyes
*Strengthen kidneys
*Reduces cholesterol

I have personally experienced the stress reducing qualities and the heart opening qualities of the tea. The tea has a wonderful, mild flavor. I like to slightly sweeten it with Stevia. You can also get it in capsule form if you aren’t a tea drinker and just want the health benefits.

Mandy’s Allergy Update

MandyMandy and I have been using MSM twice a day since about the end of May.  The amount of mucus in her eyes from allergies has been reduced by about 75% I would say.  She hasn’t stopped scratching, but that has improved.  I am giving her 1 tsp twice a day mixed in with her food along with 1/2 tsp of mangosteen powder.

The MSM works better in relation with vitamin C.

I have been adding the MSM in a smoothie or juice once or twice a day along with 1 tsp of Mangosteen powder, 1 tbl of Spirulina and 1 tbl of a raw herbal and plant blend called Earth.  I had been having an intense toothache which is 98% gone.  I figured I would get rid of what I’m sure was an infection before I see the dentist, ugh.

In the short period of time I have noticed an improvement in my nails and skin.

Check it out for yourself.  MSM is great for joint health, reducing allergies, helps the body produce insulin, assists in metabolizing carbs.  It helps the body absorb more nutrients so it’s great to take in conjunction with other nutrients, especially vitamin C.

These are all products I get from Sunfood Nutrition.  I believe they are one of the best sources for food based nutrition that I’ve found.

Pau d’Arco Tea

I just added another one of my favorite teas to my site.  Check it out Pau d’Arco.  This is a pleasant, mild tasting tea that is great for cleansing candida and balancing the bowel.

I usually drink it just because I enjoy the taste lightly sweetened with stevia.  I enjoy the flavor of all the teas I’ve recommended.  They have great healthy benefits and taste good.  Enjoy

Good Morning

I’m having my morning tea and working the sleep out of my body and mind.  I love a leisurely morning when possible to have my tea, do some exercise and journal.  I feel more prepared mentally and physically.

One of my favorite teas is Tulsi or also known as Holy Basil.  I found it a few years ago and it just seems to be getting breaking into a larger market now.  It’s from India and has been used in Ayurvedic medicine.  It is said to help lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol and help you stabilize mood swings.

I can tell you it tastes great and I do find it helpful.  I find it relaxing, but not in the sleepy kinda of way.  More calming.  My sweetener of choice is Stevia.

Have a great day!

Adaptogens

Adaptogen is a term associated with herbs that increase the body’s resistance to stress, trauma anxiety and fatigue.  I don’t know anybody that would say they couldn’t use a little help in those areas.  In the past these herbs were referred to as rejuvedating herbs, qi tonics or restoratives.

All adaptogens contain antioxidents, but antioxidents are not necessarily adaptogens and that is not their primmary mode of action.  Adaptogens allow the body to counter adverse physical, chemical or biological stressors by raising nonspecific resistance toward stress, thus allowing the organism to “adapt” to the stressful circumstances.

An adaptiongen is:

*non-toxic

*produces a nonspecific response in the body and an increase in the power of resistance against multiple stressors including physical, chemical or biological agents.

*has a normalizing influence on physiology, irrespective of the direction of change from physiological norms caused by the stressor.

Adaptogenic herbs are distinct from other substances in their ability to balance endocrine hormones and the immune system.  Adaptogens are proposed to have a normalizing effect on the body and to be capable of either toning down the activity of hyperfunctioning systems or strengthening the activity of hypofunctioning systems.

Peruvian Maca root is an adaptogen.  You can read more about Maca root in my Nutrition.
